LADAKH – LAND OF HIGH PASSES

Ladakh also known as “land of high passes” is one of the most incredible regions of India in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. By Air: You can fly up to Leh (Kushok Bakula airport), the nearest airport connected by flights with Delhi, Jammu and Srinagar. Or you can take flight up to Jammu or Srinagar then by road. There are regular flights from Delhi to Leh.

By Train: There are N numbers of train up to Jammu Tavi which is connected with all major cities and towns in India. You can find trains like Duronto, Superfast Express etc up to Jammu Tavi.

By Bus:  Leh is connected to all major cities by good motor able roads. So it is easy to get Volvo type buses from Delhi, Manali, Srinagar and Jammu.

By Road/Self drive: The road trip to Ladakh is amazing and has its own uniqueness. You will see the panoramic views of breathtaking mountains, rugged terrains, scenic landscapes and pristine valleys all the way, wherever you are starting from. You can start your trip from Jammu via Srinagar – Zoji La – Kargil – Leh (about 340 km)  or from Manali via Rohtang top – Jispa – Baralacha La top – Pang – Leh (about 490 km).

Weather in Ladakh (Best time to Visit Ladakah)

The weather in Ladakh ranges from +30ᵒC to -30ᵒC. It is the cool retreating place for summer season in India. The weather is pleasant always and you can find the sheets of ice and also enjoyable snow falls.

The tourists can visit from April to mid October. You can visit after October also but you may face high snow falls, due to which roadways get obstructed.

Summer (April to June): The Temperature ranges 3 ᵒC to 15 ᵒC. Thus, makes it favorable for tourist as its neither too hot nor too cold. Due to high altitude you can feel the zephyr. Light woolen clothes and shoes are advisable to carry.

Monsoon (July to September): The Temperature ranges from -10 ᵒC to 20 ᵒC. light rain can be expected during this time but still it is a quite favorable season.

Winter: Between Octobers to December the Temperature ranges from +10 ᵒC to -15 ᵒC. it is the time of light snow falls and you can plan the journey up to mid October. During December and January, the temperature falls to -35 ᵒC; it means time for heavy snow fall which causes blockage of roadways and communication.

 

If you want to enjoy the snow fall then September to mid October is the favorable season.  For road trip, the best time to visit is between July and August. And for Trekking the best time is between June to September.

GANGTOK – THE CLEAN CITY

Clean city Gangtok, a municipality, is the biggest town and the main city of the Indian state of Sikkim. The city is undoubtedly charming and picturesque straddling with  striking houses. By Air: Bagdogra Airport is closest to this city and is situated 16 km from Siliguri main city. A helicopter is available from Gangtok to Bagdogra airport and it operates only once in a day. Pakyong Airport, which is under construction at southeast of Gangtok, is said to be operational from December,2014.

By Train: The nearest railway station to Gangtok is the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station situated in Siliguri and is 124 km away from Gangtok. Work is being carried out for a rail station extension up to Gangtok, which would start with its facilitation in the coming few years.

By Bus: Several Buses are available from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station on daily basis. Buses are available day and night, and provides a comfortable journey of roughly 4 hours.

By Road/Self Drive: Tourists can travel to Gangtok from Siliguri, Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kolkata. The roads are clean and journey is also comfortable. Several taxis are also available from New Jalpaiguri Railway station on daily basis.

KODAIKANAL – THE PRINCESS OF HILLSTATIONS

Situated amidst the scenic Western Ghats of India in the palani hill range of the dindugul district, kodaikanal is one of the finest hill stations of Tamil Nadu.The name kodaikanal means “The Gift of forests”. By Train: Kodai road is the nearby railway station, at a distance of 100 km.Next to kodai road railway station, dindugal railway station is closer.

By Bus: There are plenty of buses plying from various cities like Chennai, Pondicherry, Trichy, Madurai, Palani and Coimbatore. Kodaikanal is about 90 km from Dindigul city.

By Road/Self Drive: Kodaikanal is 80 km far from Kodai Road. One has to travel for 2 hours from Kodai road or dindugal and for 3.5 hours from Madurai. You can also get to Kodaikanal from Cochin via the hill station of Munnar.
